NRCA Action Alert: Support Regulatory Reform Legislation

January 2017

Are you tired of dealing with ever-increasing and burdensome government regulations affecting your business? NRCA recognizes roofing contractors face an unprecedented array of federal regulations and is working to advance the Regulatory Accountability Act (H.R. 5) as a solution to this problem. NRCA urges you to contact your representative to urge his or her support of this critical legislation.

Background

NRCA supports the Regulatory Accountability Act to reduce regulatory burdens on roofing contractors. This legislation will reform the federal regulatory process governed by the Administrative Procedures Act, which has not been updated in nearly 70 years. H.R. 5 will:
  • Increase stakeholder participation in shaping the most costly regulations, including consideration of economic impacts, before they are proposed
  • Improve agency cost/benefit analysis to minimize adverse economic impacts of regulations
  • Hold agencies more accountable to the public and increase transparency in the regulatory process
  • Rein in agency use of "guidance documents" to circumvent the regulatory process
This legislation will provide relief to businesses by reversing the trend of constantly increasing regulatory burdens.

Take Action Now

NRCA is working to support the passage of the Regulatory Accountability Act in the House of Representatives. We need your help to communicate the roofing industry's support for the legislation to your representative. The legislation could be voted on as early as this week.

Dear Representative ___________,

As one of your constituents, I urge you to support passage of the Regulatory Accountability Act (H.R.5), introduced by Congressman Bob Goodlatte (VA-06).

The roofing industry faces more government regulations than ever before. These regulations have been and will continue to be a major obstacle to job creation among employers in the roofing industry if not curbed.

I ask that you support the Regulatory Accountability Act, which would reform the federal regulatory process in a manner that will provide for less burdensome regulations and ultimately provide relief to overregulated businesses.

Thank you for your consideration of this issue that is important to the roofing industry and many other businesses throughout the U.S.

Best regards,
