Certified Roofing Torch Applicator (CERTA)

The Certified Roofing Torch Applicator (CERTA) program provides the best practices and newest industry requirements for torching activities. The program trains experienced roof system installers on the safe use of roofing torches used to apply polymer-modified bitumen roofing products. CERTA training shows how proper roof system configuration design and application techniques can result in fire-safe installations.

CERTA delivers these requirements through a certification program where authorized trainers deliver effective behavior-based training to roofing workers. Participants are taught how to properly use personal protective equipment and first-aid procedures specific to torching activities, torch equipment safety, rooftop fire hazard identification and mitigation, and post-torch work fire-watch techniques

A certified roofing torch applicator must renew his or her certification status every three years. A CERTA-authorized trainer also must renew his or her accreditations every three years.

Roofing contractors employing CERTA-authorized applicators illustrates their companies' commitment to safety. CERTA-authorized applicators receive and carry a personalized CERTA identification card noting their successful completion and status in the CERTA program.
