Founded in 1886, the National Roofing Contractors Association is one of the construction industry's most respected
trade associations and the voice of roofing professionals and leading authority in the roofing industry for
information, education, technology and advocacy. NRCA is a nonprofit association that represents all segments of the
roofing industry, including contractors; manufacturers; distributors; architects; consultants; engineers; building
owners; and city, state and government agencies.
National Roofing Legal Resource Center
The National Roofing Legal Resource Center (NRLRC) was founded in 1979 as the National Roofing Litigation Center and
served as a central source of information for roofing contractors' legal disputes as a result of the rising tide of
litigation. In 1981, the organization officially changed its name to the National Roofing Legal Resource Center and
shifted direction to concentrate on reducing contractors' legal fees by developing strategies and delivering unique
products and services to enable contractors to successfully manage and respond effectively to legal issues affecting
their businesses. In June, 2014, all NRCA contractor members automatically became members of NRLRC free of charge. NRCA
believes all contractor members should be able to take advantage of the legal assistance available through NRLRC's
legal experts who are on their side to help address some of their toughest legal, business and employment issues,
including contract language, employee relations, regulatory compliance, payment provisions, insurance and safety
coverage, and codes and standards.
The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress
In 1996, The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress was established with the National Roofing Foundation (NRF) to
create an endowment fund to serve as a highly focused resource for the roofing industry and its customers. Its
objectives are to conduct research and educational projects that support high-quality programs for roofing contractors;
ensure timely and forward-thinking industry responses to major economic and technological issues; and enhance the
long-term viability and attractiveness of the industry to roofing workers.
The Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship program was established by The Alliance in 2008 and sponsors scholarships for
undergraduate students who are employees, immediate family members of employees or immediate family members of
NRCA-contractor and supplier members.
Recently, The Alliance began working with some of the top construction management academic programs in the U.S. to lay
the groundwork for enhancing students' experiences by exposing them academically and experientially to roofing as a
potential career choice.
