NRCA ProCertification training programs will teach installation skills to roofing field employees in the following
disciplines: roof system installation, waterproofing, rooftop solar, and repair and maintenance.
A bulk of the informational content will be communicated through online programs and supplemented by other methods.
Trainers around the U.S. will be qualified by NRCA to assist participants through coaching and opportunities to
practice hands-on skills. NRCA Qualified Trainers will be able to verify when participants complete courses
successfully. If they do not have access to Qualified Trainers, participants will be able to submit portfolios of
achievement and pass courses on their own.
Because every contractor operates his or her company differently and uses different manufacturers' materials, the
purpose of the training is to teach comprehension and skills based on industry standards and best practices presented
in the NRCA Roofing Manual, not any proprietary manufacturer's step-by-step instructions. Installers consistently will
be directed to follow instructions of their foremen, who are responsible for directing crews to adhere to
manufacturers' instructions and company practices.
ProCertification Training Programs to be Released in 2018 include:
Basic roofing skills
Low-slope decks, insulation and flashing concepts
Thermoplastic (e.g., TPO and PVC) single-ply roof system installation
Training for asphalt shingle installation will follow, and training for other systems will be added to the program
during the next few years.
ProCertification training programs are created for beginners and those who want to learn about systems with which they
are not familiar. All training programs will be offered in English and Spanish.
