Walmart sues Tesla after rooftop solar panels catch fire

Walmart has sued Tesla after rooftop solar panels on seven Walmart stores caught fire, allegedly because of poor safety practices, according to www.engadget.com.

Walmart said Tesla did not ground its electrical and solar systems properly and regularly sent inspectors who “lacked basic solar training and knowledge.” The retailer also said Tesla’s panels had many visible defects.

Walmart formally accused Tesla of breach of contract, gross negligence and failure to meet industry standards. It wants Tesla to not only pay damages related to the breach of contract but also remove its panels from more than 240 Walmart stores.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company has been struggling to revive its solar business, which installed 29 MW of solar power capacity during the second quarter compared with more than 200 MW at its peak.
