Chicago's attempt to reduce its heat island results in interesting research findings. This article is an account of the authors' participation in helping revise the city's energy code. The authors adapted their research paper, "Study of roof system reflectivity and near-surface air temperatures in Chicago, Illinois," that was presented at the Cool Roofs Symposium in Atlanta in May, 2005 for this article.
