Whatever the situation, cleaning in-service cool roof membranes only should be attempted once roof membrane manufacturers’ cleaning guidelines are determined; the costs and risks associated with the cleaning process are understood; and local regulations associated with cleaning, such as roof water run-off requirements, are determined. If a cleaning process occurs, it is good roofing practice to schedule cleaning just before routine biannual roof membrane inspections so any damage that may occur during the cleaning process is quickly identified and repaired.
