Selecting appropriate fasteners when using preservative-treated wood is complicated by the variety of available preservative treatments that can be corrosive to metal fasteners. Many preservative systems are used by preservative-treated wood manufacturers in the U.S. and Canada. Types of treated wood products available from distributors may vary depending on wood species, intended product end use, geographical area and distributor type. For these reasons, you should be aware of options available for using preservative-treated wood and NRCA’s current recommendations for using fasteners with preservative-treated wood.
