In February, the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing unveiled RoofPoint™the
first comprehensive roof rating system for the assessment and selection of sustainable
roof systemsto a select group of roofing industry stakeholders at the 2010 International
Roofing Expo. RoofPoint has entered the first of two public comment periods, with
the goal of finalizing the guideline rating system by the end of 2010.
RoofPoint's mission is to provide a means of roof system selection across membrane
types and system designs so building owners are aware of the full spectrum of environmentally
responsive options the roofing industry offers to meet their needs. RoofPoint evaluates
roof systems in five categories: energy management, materials management, water
management, durability/life cycle management and innovation.
Additionally, NRCA and the center partnered to develop the Roof Integrated Solar
Energy (RISE) program, which involves a certification program for individuals responsible
for the installation of roof-mounted PV systems. The program will launch in July
2010.
