NRCA's technical services section is members' resource for technical-related roofing
industry issues.
During the year, the technical staff finalized The NRCA Roofing Manual: Architectural
Metal Flashing, Condensation Control and Reroofing—2010, completing the revision
of The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual, Fifth Edition.
It also developed Guidelines for Roof-mounted Photovoltaic System Installations,
which is NRCA's first publication specifically directed at rooftop photovoltaic
applications, and A Roofing Professional's Guide to LEED®.
The technical staff wrote 20 articles about roofing-related technical issues for
Professional Roofing magazine and gave 29 presentations regarding roofing-related
technical issues to various affiliate and other organizations.
It represented NRCA at International Code Council (ICC) code hearings for developing
the 2012 codes. A total of 2,575 code change proposals were heard; 67 were roofing-specific.
NRCA's position was supported by ICC on 92 percent of the issues.
The technical staff continued to add authorized fabricators to NRCA's edge-metal
flashing certification for compliance with ANSI/SPRI ES-1. Currently, 98 NRCA contractor
members are certified.
