To ensure NRCA will continue to provide members with useful educational programs and services, NRCA University performed a membership-wide education needs assessment in 2011. The comprehensive assessment consisted of random member interviews and a survey of the entire membership. The information will be used during fiscal year 2011-12 to improve NRCA's service to its members.

NRCA University completed other groundbreaking work in 2010-11 with its role in creating the Roof Integrated Solar Energy™ (RISE™) organization. Founded by the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing and NRCA, RISE was created to provide a means of evaluating and certifying solar roofing professionals through the Certified Solar Roofing Professional™ (CSRP™) Exam. RISE's efforts included creating an exam consistent with the National Commission for Certifying Agencies; launching a website and communications about the certification; creating a study guide to assist with the exam; and administering the exam on three separate dates at testing sites throughout the U.S.

NRCA University staff produced an online series titled Fall Protection for New Workers. The three-module series was created in English and Spanish and offered free of charge to members from August 2010 through December 2010. NRCA members also were able to take advantage of a free safety program, Profitability Through Effective Safety Programs, as a result of a previous grant awarded to NRCA.

In addition to safety programs, NRCA University offered public classes such as Rooftop Photovoltaics: Energizing Your Business and CERTA Train-the-trainer Authorization and Reauthorization classes. Other classes offered online were Roofing 101; Roofing Energy and the Environment Series; and Impact-resistant Roofs: Contractor Certificate Program.

Finally, NRCA customized and delivered numerous privately contracted technical classes, including Architectural and Low-slope Metal Roof Systems; Roof Inspection Diagnosis and Repair; Roof Repair and Maintenance; and Performance Technology for Roof Systems.
