Stephen M. Phillips, senior partner with the law firm Hendrick, Phillips, Salzman & Flatt, Atlanta

Stephen M. Phillips is the 56th recipient of NRCA's J.A. Piper Award.

Phillips is a senior partner with the law firm Hendrick, Phillips, Salzman & Flatt, Atlanta. Phillips focuses on legal issues pertaining to the construction industry, particularly the commercial roofing industry. He serves as counsel to NRCA and the National Roofing Legal Resource Center. Phillips also has served as chairman and a member of the Board of Regents and faculty for the Roofing Industry Educational Institute. Phillips currently is a member of the American Arbitration Association's Commercial Panel to hear construction disputes.

"If someone had told me when I started practicing law in 1976 that my practice for the next 27 years would focus on the roofing industry, I would not have believed him," Phillips says. "The roofing industry provides opportunities and I am deeply appreciative of the opportunities it has provided for me. I first attended NRCA's 1977 Atlanta convention and have attended every NRCA convention since. I am thrilled and greatly honored to be considered in the same class as others who have won this award."
