CARLSON RACINE ROOFING & SHEET METAL INC. WINS GOLD CIRCLE AWARDS
Las VegasDuring the National Roofing Contractors Association's (NRCA's) 119th Annual Convention held Feb. 13-16, Carlson Racine Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc., Racine, Wis., won NRCA's Gold Circle Award for outstanding workmanship: low-slope, as well as NRCA's Gold Circle Award for safety solutions.
Carlson Racine Roofing & Sheet Metal earned the awards for installing a new roof system on The Johnson Athletic Center in Racine. The building is unique with a roof area of more than 60,000 square feet (5574 m²). The roof and large fascias are covered by more than 38 tons (34 Mg) of 16-ounce copper. Two new barrel roof systems-with slopes up to 9-in-12 (37 degrees) and eave heights beginning at 35 feet (11 m) aboveground-were covered with a standing-seam copper metal roof system consisting of a double hem-lock seam. The intricate fascia panels that surround the barrel roof systems consist of 14 copper pieces. The two barrel roof systems are buried in the middle of the copper metal roof system. One roof system is an SBS-modified bitumen membrane; the other is 90-mil- (0.09-inch- [2.3 mm-]) thick fully adhered EPDM membrane. Working during the winter in Wisconsin posed the challenge of constant 30- to 40-mph winds off Lake Michigan.
The Gold Circle Awards program annually honors NRCA members and affiliate organizations from around the world. Recipients are recognized by their peers for significant contributions to the roofing industry in one of five categories: workmanship, innovation, service to the community, service to the industry and safety.
