Community Service Day was a success
On Feb. 21, the 2010 International Roofing Expo® (IRE) held its first Community Service Day in New Orleans. The IRE partnered with Rebuilding Together® New Orleans to host the home renovation and revitalization project.

Community Service Day was held in New Orleans' Holly Grove neighborhood. Seventy-seven volunteers helped renovate five homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Most of the homes had at least 6 feet of water in them, and at least two of the homeowners have not been able to return to their homes since the damage occurred.

Work performed included painting, glazing, landscaping, moving HVAC equipment and chipping mortar off old bricks.

NRCA; AmeriCorps; Sika/Sarnafil, Canton, Mass.; and Bradco Supply Corp., Avenel, N.J., were among the companies and organizations involved.

"Feedback was terrific," says Bill Good, NRCA's executive vice president. "Everyone enjoyed the day and felt a real sense of accomplishment."
