DOE notice requires states to file certification statements

The Department of Energy (DOE) has determined that the 2012 edition of the International Code Council's International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) would achieve greater energy efficiency in low-rise residential buildings than the 2009 IECC.

Upon publication of this affirmative final determination, states are required to file certification statements to DOE that they have reviewed the provisions of their residential building code regarding energy efficiency and determined whether to update their code to meet or exceed the 2012 IECC. Additionally, DOE's notice offers guidance to states regarding the certification process and how the codes have changed from previous versions.

States must file a certification statement to DOE by May 14, 2014, that their residential energy code meets or exceeds IECC 2012.
