Students win roofing industry scholarships
The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress has announced the winners of its Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarships for the 2012-13 academic year.

Hruby
This year's new scholarship recipients include Carter Hruby, Fargo, N.D., son of Bill Hruby, service manager with MJ Dalsin Co. of North Dakota, West Fargo, who has been awarded the Fred Good Scholarship; Jonathan Poore, Harrogate, Tenn., son of Troy Poore, territory sales manager with LaFerney Commerical Roofing, Kingsport, Tenn., who has been awarded the Dan Cohen Scholarship; and Kara Sosinski, Hudson, Ohio, daughter of Kurt Sosinski, director of product management with Tremco Inc., Beachwood, Ohio.

The Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program, which permanently replaced the Alliance's previous scholarship program in 2008, provides recipients with $5,000 per year based on eligibility for up to four years of enrollment at an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school. NRCA contractor or supplier member companies' full-time employees or their immediate family members are eligible for the merit-based scholarships, which are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, age, gender, disability or national origin.

In addition, the Alliance renewed seven Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarships for the 2012-13 academic year. The recipients are Gabriella Abbondanza, Southwick, Mass., who is attending Suffolk University, Boston; Joseph Baker, Apex, N.C., who is attending North Carolina State University, Raleigh, N.C., and was awarded a Firestone Scholarship; Alexis Belote, Red Oak, Texas, who is attending University of Texas at Austin; Sean Cawley, Birmingham, Ala., who is attending Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn.; Neil Hourahan, Saunderstown, R.I., who is attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst; Charanya Kaushik, McMurray, Pa., who is attending Washington & Jefferson College, Washington, Pa.; and Alexis Plachecki, Taylor, Wis., who is attending University of Minnesota: Twin Cities, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., and was awarded a Firestone Scholarship.
