A certified roofing torch applicator's certified status expires three years after
his original training date. NRCA will send a reminder notice regarding renewal requirements to all certified torch applicators before their eligibility expires.
It is the direct responsibility of all certified torch applicators to notify their
employers of pending expiration. The same sequence of expiration notices also are
sent directly to the certified applicator's employer of record.
Note: You should contact your authorized trainer as soon as possible once you receive
notice of your pending expiration to schedule your recertification training.
The CERTA recertification class is significantly different from the original eight-hour
class. Participants are updated on the most recent changes to the best torching
practices and are given an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to use roofing
torches safely. The CERTA recertification class is a four-hour program.
NRCA recommends completing the CERTA Certified Torch Applicator Recertification training
course before your original certification expires. It is important you work
with your authorized trainer or your employer to schedule your recertification training.
If you renew your certified status before your certification expires, it will be
valid for three years after your ORIGINAL expiration, not the actual date you become
recertified. For example, if your certification expires Nov. 1, 2007, and you successfully
complete the CERTA recertification training Sept. 14, 2007, your renewed certification
will be valid until Oct. 31, 2010.
You will have a 30-day grace period after your expiration date to complete the CERTA
recertification training. You will not be certified as an applicator during this
30-day grace period.
If you do not become recertified during this 30-day grace period you will lose your
certified status and be required to retake the original eight-hour CERTA applicator
