It was a year of highs and lows for the roofing industry in terms of the economy.
NRCA was no exception. However, we are part of an industry that is strong by nature.
After 122 years, NRCA continues to prosper because of the solidity of its members,
staff and leadership. Our accomplishments during the past year have made NRCA a
more dynamic association.
We have just completed one of the most in-depth strategic plans ever assembled by
NRCA. The entire industry, including contractors, manufacturers, current leadership
and past leadership, was petitioned for its input. What resulted was a 10-point
plan that focuses on the industry as a whole and addresses our current and future
needs. It will allow us to change as our needs change and make us accountable for
measuring our successes.
A new branding study also was undertaken. We learned a lot, resulting in some major
changes regarding how NRCA presents itself. Changes include a new logo that will
be incorporated into a number of our publications and printed materials.
The development of NRCA University has become one of our largest projects. It is
a strategic part of advancing professionalism in the roofing industry through education
and training. The most prolific outcome has been the development of Roofing 101
as the first of many online programs, allowing those new to the industry to be trained
without having to travel.
One of the highlights of the past year has been in membership; we boasted 610 new
members between June 1, 2007, and May 31, 2008. ALL of the credit for this must
go to the Membership Committee and NRCA's membership staff. Without these people
working tirelessly year after year, NRCA would not be where it is today.
Serving as NRCA president has been an opportunity that will never be matched for
me professionally. I especially want to thank the NRCA staff members for the assistance
they provided to make my year as president an enjoyable experience. I also want
to thank my peers serving on the Executive Committee, board of directors and various
association committees who gave hours of their personal time to make this year a
memorable one for all of us. New leadership will be taking over, and I can assure
you that no one will be disappointed in what they have to offer.
Sincerely,
Bob Daly
NRCA President 2007-08
