RUFF ROOFERS INC. WINS GOLD CIRCLE AWARD
Las VegasDuring the National Roofing Contractors Association's (NRCA's) 119th
Annual Convention held Feb. 13-16, Ruff Roofers Inc., Baltimore, won NRCA's Gold
Circle Award for outstanding workmanship: steep-slope.
Ruff Roofers earned the award for restoring the roofs on The Johns Hopkins Hospital
Landmark Buildings in Baltimore. The three historical buildings presented a challenge
as two have large slate cupolas with copper trim and spires and one has a large
dome with scalloped slate and copper ribs and is capped with ornamental copper.
Ruff Roofers installed scalloped slate on the large dome's vertically and horizontally
curved surface and improved joint designs on the existing ornamental copper. The
company developed a diverter design to alleviate deterioration of the copper ribs
on the dome caused by rainwater runoff. Copper built-in gutters were replaced, as
well, to allow for positive drainage while maintaining a historical profile.
The Gold Circle Awards program annually honors NRCA members and affiliate organizations
from around the world. Recipients are recognized by their peers for significant
contributions to the roofing industry in one of five categories: workmanship, innovation,
service to the community, service to the industry and safety.

executive assistant, at (847) 299-9070, Ext. 7522, or e-mail chanus@nrca.net.
