NRCA co-sponsors charity kickoff event

NRCA CO-SPONSORS CHARITY KICKOFF EVENT Rosemont, Ill.—The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) was a co-sponsor of Rebuilding Together's "Kickoff to Rebuild 2006" on Feb. 3 in Detroit. The 11th annual event, held two days before the National Football League's (NFL's) Super Bowl XL, featured the rehabilitation of the Cass Community Social Services/Activity Center and a press conference. NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and wife Chandler Tagliabue, NFL players and community volunteers renovated the Cass Activity Center, which provides daily meals and transportation for developmentally disabled adults and seniors, as well as teaches them about safety, hygiene, exercise, money management and social interaction. The volunteers focused on repairs to brighten the facility and improve the safety of and environment for the clients and staff. Sponsorship included NRCA; Countrywide Financial Services, Calabasas, Calif.; Home Depot, Atlanta; Nonprofit Facilities Fund, a program of the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, Detroit; and Sodexho, Gaithersburg, Md. NRCA contributed $5,000, as well as an additional $5,000 worth of public awareness advertising. Rebuilding Together is the largest volunteer housing rehabilitation organization in the U.S. Each year, more than 8,700 houses and 400 nonprofit facilities are rehabilitated by 275,000 volunteers in 1,879 cities and towns across the U.S. The organization also provides home repairs for low-income, elderly or disabled community members. Established in 1886, NRCA is one of the construction industry's oldest and most respected trade associations. The organization has 4,010 members and is affiliated with 77 local, state, regional and international roofing contractor associations.
