STEVEN KRUGER AWARDED ROOFING INDUSTRY'S HIGHEST HONOR
Las VegasSteven Kruger, president of L.E. Schwartz & Son Inc., Macon, Ga.,
is the 59th recipient of the National Roofing Contractors Association's (NRCA's)
J.A. Piper Award.
Presented each year at NRCA's annual convention, the J.A. Piper Award recognizes
roofing professionals who have devoted constant, outstanding service to NRCA and
the roofing industry.
Kruger was president of NRCA from 1998-99 and has served in various capacities at
NRCA, including as a member of the board of directors from 1986-89 and 1993-96,
vice president from 1991-93 and 1995-97, and senior vice president from 1997-98.
He also served as chairman of many committees, including the Affiliate Relations
Committee; Audit, Budget & Finance Committee; Education Operating Committee; Exhibitor
Advisory Committee; Industry Advisory Committee; International Relations Committee;
Manual Update Committee; Nominating Committee; NRCA/SPRI Liaison Committee; Roof
Consultants Institute Liaison Task Force; Technical Operations Committee; and Wind
Committee. Kruger also served as president, vice president liaison and member of
many other NRCA committees.
Kruger has held leadership positions in numerous trade and professional organizations,
serving as president of the Georgia Roofing & Sheet Metal Contractors Association;
chairman for the RIEI Board of Regents; co-chairman for Building for the Future;
and vice chairman for United Way of Macon and Bibb County (community services),
among many others. Kruger was named one of the Outstanding Young Men of America
and received the President's Award and Boone Noblitt Award from the Roofing & Sheet
Metal Contractors Association of Georgia.
First presented in 1948, the J.A. Piper Award is named for former NRCA President
Joseph A. Piper, whose extraordinary efforts kept the association alive during the
Great Depression.
