THE ROOFING INDUSTRY ALLIANCE FOR PROGRESS CO-SPONSORS ROOFPOINT™
Rosemont, Ill.The Roofing Industry Alliance for
Progress has awarded a $750,000 grant to the Center for Environmental Innovation
in Roofing to co-sponsor the development of RoofPoint, a new guideline and rating
system for the selection of roof systems that maximize energy efficiency and minimize
environmental impact. The grant will provide the center critical resources to expand
RoofPoint's development and public launch.
"The center's board of directors is deeply grateful to the Alliance for this tremendous
opportunity to implement our new guideline system, RoofPoint," says John Geary,
chairman of the center's board of directors and vice president of Firestone Building
Products Co. LLC, Indianapolis. "The opportunities for the roofing industry are
unprecedented. Interest and investment in sustainable roofing is growing at a rapid
pace, and this trend offers our industry the opportunity to transform roofing into
a value-added product, and position our workforce as a value-added profession. RoofPoint
is ideally suited to drive this transformation."
"The Alliance believes RoofPoint will become a valuable tool for the roofing industry,"
says Reid Ribble, the Alliance's president and director of The Ribble Group Inc.,
Kaukauna, Wis. "It has the potential to grow our industry, expand the role of the
rooftop, lead to the development of innovative clean technologies, and deliver new
economic and environmental benefit to building owners and their inhabitants. The
center is well-positioned to deliver RoofPoint, and the Alliance is delighted to
support and work with the center to launch this exciting new program."
RoofPoint is set to launch next month. For more information about the program, contact
Craig Silvertooth at (202) 380-3371 or visit www.roofingcenter.org.
The Alliance was established in 1996 within the National Roofing Foundation, a separate
but related educational and research organization of NRCA, to address critical industry
issues. The organization is open to all roofing contractor and industry partners.
Alliance members are committed to securing the future excellence of the roofing
industry by bringing together all industry segments to help fund research and educational
programs; provide timely and forward-thinking industry responses to major economic
and technological issues; and enhance the long-term viability and attractiveness
of the industry to roofing workers.
The center is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.,
that promotes the development and use of environmentally responsible, high-performance
roof systems and technologies.
