The highlight of the luncheon will be to present the coveted J.A. Piper Award to
the 2009 recipient and honor previous recipients. Each year, NRCA awards the J.A.
Piper Award during its annual convention to a roofing professional who has demonstrated
outstanding service to NRCA and the industry. Among the J.A. Piper Award winners
are NRCA presidents and committee members–all of whom have dedicated their lives
to the industry. The award was established in 1947 and is named after former NRCA
President J.A. Piper in appreciate for his service during the Great Depression.
Piper had the unique challenge of holding the association together during this tumultuous
time.
The featured speaker at the NRCA luncheon will be Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger. Against
all odds on a gridiron in South Bend, Ind., Rudyin 27 secondscarved
his name into history books as perhaps the most famous graduate of the University
of Notre Dame. The son of an oil refinery worker and third of 14 children, Rudy
rose from valleys of discouragement and despair to the pinnacles of success.
The lunch also will include NRCA’s member meeting and elections.
