CERTA Train-the-trainer Authorization

During the train-the-trainer workshop, you will complete a 10-hour accreditation
program addressing how to teach torch safety. Through classroom instruction and
hands-on torching activities, you learn the latest industry best safety practices
for torch-applied roof systems. You also learn the teaching skills needed to train
others about torch safety. After successfully completing this program, you will
be authorized to conduct CERTA certification training for roofing workers. Authorized
trainers receive training materials, including an instructors guide and English
and Spanish editions of the CERTA student manual and training video.
Program prerequisite: Participants must be proficient in the use of a roofing torch,
be able to speak and read English, and have some experience training others.
Each CERTA Train-the-trainer Authorization attendee is required to complete a pre-qualifying
questionnaire and submit it prior to the start of the class. You will receive the
form with your registration confirmation. The completed form must be faxed to Janice
Davis, NRCA's manager of risk management and education, at (847) 299-1183 prior
to attending the course.
After participating in this course, participants should be able to do the following:
- Increase learning facilitation skills
- Develop effective hands-on training skills
- Describe new industry safety practices for torch-applied roofing work
- Comply with the CERTA program policies and procedures
Note: Class size is limited; advance registration is required. The tuition fee includes
all course materials, continental breakfast, and morning and afternoon beverage
service.
This course will benefit roofing professionals at all levels who need to implement
and expand their torch safety programs.

For Foremen and Superintendents Only is a program focusing on communication and
management skills for field managers. The roofing industry is filled with foremen
and superintendents who can install roof systems expertly and who were promoted
because of that expertise. Unfortunately, these individuals often struggle with
the leadership, communication and management skills needed to effectively run their
crews. This fun, interactive program introduces the concept that foremen truly are
managers and helps them focus on developing these new skills to become more effective
at leading roofing crews. It also provides concrete ways to improve their communication
skills. It is a great way for foremen and superintendents to increase their success
in the roofing industry.
After participating in this course, participants should be able to do the following:
- Identify positive and negative approaches to communication
- Recognize their own communication styles
- Improve their communication skills
- Articulate specific ways to increase crew productivity
- Increase their job management skills
- Identify steps to improve their own leadership skills
- Implement conflict resolution with employees in discipline situations
- Translate learning to on-the-job situations

Roofing Industry Fall Protection from A to Z

If you want assistance with fall-protection training for your employees, take this
course to increase your awareness of fall-protection hazards and become familiar
with the specific equipment to use and work practices to employ to avoid these hazards.
You will learn about OSHA's fall-protection requirements and understand the components
of fall-protection systems. The course also features demonstrations of equipment
and techniques for self-rescue and relief of suspension trauma.
