During NRCA's Cocktail and Awards Reception yesterday, a number of annual awards were presented.

The Charlie Raymond Award was presented to Robert McNamara, F.J.A. Christiansen Roofing Co. Inc., Milwaukee, a Tecta America company, and GAF Materials Corp., Wayne, N.J. The award is given to the NRCA member and manufacturer that recruit the greatest number of new members during the calendar year. To earn this honor, McNamara recruited five new members and GAF Materials recruited 15 new members in 2009.


Richard Heilinger was awarded The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress'
Best of the Best Award during NRCA's 123rd Annual Convention.


The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress presented its Most Valuable Player Awards to honor outstanding roofing workers. Following are the 2009-10 winners:
  • Community service/volunteerism—Mark Hamm, crew manager for F.J.A. Christiansen Roofing Co. Inc., Milwaukee, a Tecta America company
  • Contribution to team effort and Other noteworthy contributions—Richard Heilinger, service specialist for GSM Roofing, Ephrata, Pa.
  • Outstanding on the job—Donald Long, foreman for Steinrock Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc., Louisville, Ky.
  • Community service and volunteerism—Charles Lopes, service department foreman for Commercial Roofers Inc., Las Vegas
  • Safety performance—Luciano Perez, safety/compliance coordinator for KPost Co., Dallas
  • Contribution to team effort—Don Ruxer, crane operator for Commercial Roofers Inc., Las Vegas
  • Outstanding on the job and Safety performance—Janusz Wawrzenzyk, senior foreman for Centimark Corp., King of Prussia, Pa.
  • Other noteworthy contributions—Jonathan Wong, field supervisor for Centimark Corp., Bartlett, Tenn.
In addition, the Alliance's Best of the Best Award was presented to Richard Heilinger, service specialist for GSM Roofing, Ephrata, Pa.

NRCA awarded the 63rd Annual J.A. Piper Award, the roofing industry's most prestigious honor, to Mike Promen, Clark Roofing Co., Broadview, Ill. Dane Bradford presented the award.

Finalists and winners of NRCA's annual Gold Circle Awards were announced. The Gold Circle Awards recognize NRCA members from around the world for outstanding contributions to the roofing industry in four categories: outstanding workmanship, service to the community, innovative solutions and service to the industry.

The finalists and winners of NRCA's 2010 Gold Circle Awards are as follows:

Outstanding workmanship—low-slope:
  • Winner: Castro Roofing of Texas LP, Dallas, for the Sanders Estes Unit
  • Honorable Mention: Bloom Roofing Systems Inc., Brighton, Mich., for the H.H. Dow Academy
  • Finalist: King of Texas Roofing Co., Grand Prairie, Texas, for the Health Care Service Corp. Data Center
  • Finalist: T.L. Gowin & Co. Inc., Cartersville, Ga., for the Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts
Outstanding workmanship—steep-slope:
  • Winner: F.J.A. Christiansen Roofing Co. Inc., Milwaukee, a Tecta America company, for Milwaukee City Hall
  • Honorable Mention: Castro Roofing of Texas LP, Dallas, for the Cedar Hill Municipal Government Center
  • Honorable Mention: Russell Roofing Co. Inc., Oreland, Pa., for Arcadia University's Murphy Hall
  • Finalist: Grove Roofing Services Inc., Buffalo, N.Y., for the Darwin Martin House
Innovative solutions—new construction:
  • Winner: Black Roofing Inc., Boulder, Colo., for the Museum of Contemporary Art
  • Winner: GSM Roofing, Ephrata, Pa., for D-Gallery
  • Honorable Mention: KPost Co., Dallas, for the Children's Medical Center Tower
Innovative solutions—reroofing:
  • Winner: Keystone Roofing Inc., Oceanside, Calif., for a private estate
  • Honorable Mention: Silktown Roofing Inc., Derby, Conn., for Naugatuck High School
  • Finalist: Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing, Dallas, for The Merc
  • Finalist: Dryspace Inc., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the University of Iowa's Greenhouse Classroom
Service to the community:
  • Winners: Supreme Systems Inc., Dallas, and Empire Roofing Ltd., Fort Worth, Texas, for the Women's Center of Tarrant County
  • Honorable Mention: Great Lakes Roofing Corp., Germantown, Wis., for The Master's Craftsmen
  • Finalist: Nations Roof LLC, Lithia Springs, Ga., for the YWCA Safe House
Gold Circle Safety Award
  • Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing, Dallas, for The Merc
Gold Circle Platinum Award
  • F.J.A. Christiansen Roofing Co. Inc., Milwaukee, a Tecta America company, for Milwaukee City Hall
Today, registration will be available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the exhibit hall will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hanley Wood's educational conferences will be held from 7:45 to 11:15 a.m.
