NRCA's 124th Annual Convention, in conjunction with Hanley Wood's 2011 International
Roofing Expo® (IRE), was held Feb. 14 to 18 in Las Vegas. NRCA's educational
programs were held Feb. 15, providing participants with CERTA, rooftop photovoltaic
and fall-protection training. In addition, NRCA's Future Executives Institute (FEI)
held classes during the 2011 convention. Also held Feb. 15 was the National Roofing
Legal Resource Center's Annual Breakfast Program, ROOFPAC's Golf Tournament, receptions
hosted by NRCA for FEI and international attendees and The Roofing Alliance for
Progress' reception.
A new event at the 2011 convention was ROOFPAC's Wii™ Golf Tournament held
at its booth. Prizes for winners of the tournament included Wii™ gaming systems
and an iPad. During NRCA's luncheon Feb. 17 elections for the 2011-12 officers were
held, naming Kent Tolley, Quality Tile Roofing Inc., Boise, Idaho as the next president
and the J.A. Piper Award was presented to John Miller. Also held Feb. 17 was NRCA's
Cocktail and Awards Reception where the Charlie Raymond Awards, Alliance's Most
Valuable Player Awards and Gold Circle Awards were presented. On Feb. 18 NRCA administered
the second Roof Integrated Solar Energy's Certified Solar Roofing Professionals
exam.
The 2011 IRE began Feb. 16 and ran through Feb. 18, offering educational conferences,
an exhibit hall, keynote speaker Joe Theismann and a welcome party at Tao. Theismann's
talk focused on adapting to different situations. Theismann told the attendees "You're
special and you're important. You're an important part of what we see in the future.
I know it's tough right now, but you're going to lead us there."
