During the NRCA Luncheon yesterday, the annual NRCA Member Meeting and Elections took place. Members voted to approve the 2011-12 slate of officers during the meeting.

The following were elected officers for 2011-12:

President: Kent Tolley, Quality Tile Roofing Inc., Boise, Idaho
Senior vice president: Bruce McCrory, Kiker Corp., Mobile, Ala.
Vice president, two years: Nelson Braddy, King of Texas Roofing Co. LP, Grand Prairie, Texas
Dennis Conway, Commercial Roofers Inc., Las Vegas
Don Kennedy, Don Kennedy Roofing Co. Inc., Nashville, Tenn.

During NRCA's Cocktail and Awards Reception yesterday, a number of annual awards were presented.

The Charlie Raymond Award was presented to Nelson Braddy with King of Texas Roofing Co. LP in Grand Prairie, Texas, and GAF Materials Corp., Wayne, N.J. The award is given to the NRCA member and manufacturer that recruit the greatest number of new members during the calendar year. To earn this honor, Braddy recruited three new members and GAF Materials recruited 23 new members in 2010.


The Roofing Alliance for Progress' Most Valuable Player Award winners were
announced Feb. 17 at NRCA's 124th Annual Convention in Las Vegas.


The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress presented its Most Valuable Player Awards to honor outstanding roofing workers. Following are the 2010-11 winners:
  • Outstanding on the job—Will DeGrace, superintendent for Baker Roofing Co., Raleigh, N.C.
  • Community service/volunteerism—Frank Delgado, superintendent for RSI Roofing, San Diego
  • Outstanding on the job—George Denton, superintendent for Supreme Systems Inc., Dallas
  • Contributions to a team effort—Robert Marshall, foreman for Centimark Corp., King of Prussia, Pa.
  • Other noteworthy contributions—Kevin Moretz, foreman for Centimark Corp., Jessup, Md.
  • On the job safety—Charlie Navatta, superintendent for Supreme Systems
  • Contribution to team effort—Gary Pegump, superintendent for T&K Roofing and Sheet Metal Co., Ely, Iowa
  • Other noteworthy contributions—Tomas Perez, superintendent for Star Roofing Inc., Phoenix
  • On the job safety—Ernesto Ruiz, foreman, AAA Roofing Co. Inc., Indianapolis
  • Community service/volunteerism—Donald Wohlfeil Jr., superintendent for Noffke Roofing Co. LLC, Mequon, Wis.
In addition, the Alliance's Best of the Best Award was presented to George Denton, superintendent for Supreme Systems.

NRCA awarded the 64th Annual J.A. Piper Award, the roofing industry's most prestigious honor, to John Miller. Dane Bradford presented the award.

Finalists and winners of NRCA's annual Gold Circle Awards were announced. The Gold Circle Awards recognize NRCA members from around the world for outstanding contributions to the roofing industry in four categories: outstanding workmanship, service to the community, innovative solutions and service to the industry.

The finalists and winners of NRCA's 2011 Gold Circle Awards are as follows:

Outstanding workmanship–low-slope:
  • Winner: Cubiertas Industriales de Mexico S.A. de C.V., Chihuahua, Mexico, for Kellogg de Mexico Processing Plant, Queretaro, Mexico
  • Finalist: All American Exterior Solutions Inc., Lake Zurich, Ill., for FedEx Cargo Relocation, Chicago
  • Finalist: Berwald Roofing Co. Inc., St. Paul, Minn., for University of Minnesota Science Teaching and Student Services Center, Minneapolis
Outstanding workmanship–steep-slope:
  • Winner: Steinrock Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc., Louisville, Ky., for Coweta County Courthouse, Newnan, Ga.
  • Honorable Mention: James R. Walls Contracting Co. Inc., Clinton, Md., for Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, Washington, D.C.
  • Finalist: Black Roofing Inc., Boulder, Colo., for Denver Art Museum, Denver
  • Finalist: Walsdorf Roofing Co. Inc., Kiel, Wis., for Dane County Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Madison, Wis.
Innovative solutions–new construction:
  • Winner: Carpenter's Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc., West Palm Beach, Fla., for Windsong II, Palm Beach, Fla.
  • Finalist: Cuddy Roofing Co. Inc., Pittsburgh, for Carnegie Mellon University's The Gates Center for Computer Science, Pittsburgh
  • Finalist: James R. Walls Contracting Co. Inc., Clinton, Md., for Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, Washington, D.C.
Innovative solutions–reroofing:
  • Honorable Mention: Cubiertas Industriales de Mexico S.A. de C.V., Chihuahua, Mexico, for Kellogg de Mexico Processing Plant, Queretaro, Mexico

NRCA will administer the Roof Integrated Solar Energy's Certified Solar Roofing Professionals exam today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
