NRLRC Luncheon

Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013
11 a.m.–1 p.m.
International Roofing Expo®/NRCA Convention

The National Roofing Legal Resource Center (NRLRC) will host a luncheon program in San Antonio in Room 206AB of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center immediately following the IRE keynote address Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. instead of its annual luncheon program.

This venue change will provide a greater opportunity for participation and provide roofing contractors with a candid and eye-opening discussion from two different panels of speakers, both of which will share stories about a number of roofing-specific legal and technical issues you can't afford not to hear.

NRLRC—Part 1: ICE Audits: Are You at Risk?

Consistent with the current upward trend in investigations by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arm of the Department of Homeland Security, many employers nationwide have been ordered to submit their I-9 employment eligibility forms and other documents for inspection … often with little notice. These administrative audits, which not only can lead to significant fines and penalties but also criminal charges against a company, appear to be ICE's enforcement mechanism of choice.

As recipients of ICE work site enforcement visits, NRLRC's first speaker panel, which includes Brad Beldon, president of Beldon Roofing Co., San Antonio, and Scott Kawulok, executive project manager of B&M Roofing of Colorado Inc., Frederick, Colo., will share stories about their unexpected ICE audits to help you determine whether you are in compliance and prepared should you be ordered to submit your hiring records for inspection.

NRLRC—Part 2: Observations from the Field: Legal Do's and Don'ts

During the second part of the luncheon, NRLRC's expert technical panel will educate you about how to limit your liability and protect yourself from a number of legal, technical and relationship problems, including revisions to FM 4470 and the impact on virtually all of FM's classifications; condensation problems related to white single- ply membranes; air-barriers in the new IECC 2012; the current state of R-values; and hurricane Sandy liabilities.

NRLRC is pleased to welcome a panel of distinguished speakers, including Dane Bradford, president of Bradford Roof Management, Billings, Mont.; Mark S. Graham, NRCA's associate executive director of technical services, Rosemont, Ill.; and Stephen Phillips, a partner with the Atlanta-based law firm Hendrick, Phillips, Salzman & Flatt, Atlanta.
