During NRCA's Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception yesterday, a number of annual awards were presented.

The Charlie Raymond Award was presented to Nelson Braddy, King of Texas Roofing LP, Grand Prairie, Texas, and GAF Materials Corp., Wayne, N.J. The award is given to the NRCA member and manufacturer that recruit the greatest number of new members during 2012.

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress presented its Most Valuable Player Awards to honor outstanding roofing workers. Following are the 2012-13 winners:

Paul Carlsen, foreman for Centimark Corp., Bloomington, Minn.
Daniel Pastore, superintendent for Upstate Roofing & Painting, Inc. Rochester, N.Y.
Earl Stewart, field worker for Elliott Roofing, Oklahoma City

In addition, Professional Roofing's Best of the Best Award was presented to Daniel Pastore, superintendent for Upstate Roofing & Painting.

NRCA awarded the 66th Annual J.A. Piper Award, the roofing industry's most prestigious honor, to Robert M. Dalsin.

NRCA, CNA and the CNA Foundation awarded the first CNA/NRCA Community Involvement Award to ABC Roofing, Clackamas, Ore., for its work with Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp, Portland, Ore. The CNA/NRCA Community Involvement Award honors charitable works by NRCA member contractors and awards the winning company's charity with $5,000.

Finalists and winners of NRCA's annual Gold Circle Awards were announced. Gold Circle Awards recognize NRCA members from around the world that make significant contributions to the roofing industry in various categories.

The finalists and winners of NRCA's 2013 Gold Circle Awards are as follows:

Outstanding workmanship (Low-slope)

Winners:
  • James Myers Co. Inc., Beltsville, Md., for The Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, Vienna, Va.
  • KPost Co., Dallas, for Omni Dallas Hotel
Finalists:
  • Castro Roofing of Texas LP, Dallas, for The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston
  • Henry C. Smither Roofing Co. Inc., Indianapolis, for The Commons, Columbus, Ind.

Winner:
  • Wagner Roofing Co., Hyattsville, Md., for U.S. Naval Academy's Mahan Hall, Annapolis, Md.
Honorable mention:
  • James Myers Co. Inc., Beltsville, Md., for the Pentagon, Arlington, Va.
Finalist:
  • Peach State Roofing Inc., Lawrence, Ga., for Catholic Center at University of Georgia, Athens
Innovative solutions (New construction)

Winner:
  • Chadwick Technology Pty. Ltd., Killarney Heights, Australia, for St. Barnabas Church, Sydney
Innovative solutions (Reroofing)

Winner:
  • Wagner Roofing Co., Hyattsville, Md., for U.S. Naval Academy's Mahan Hall, Annapolis, Md.

Today's events include NRCA's For Foremen Only, Level One which will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Roof Integrated Solar Energy™ will administer its Certified Solar Roofing Professional™ exam from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both events will take place at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

Today, registration will be available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the exhibit hall will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hanley Wood's educational conferences will be held from 7:45 to 11:15 a.m.
