Karen Cates

Karen
Cates, a lecturer at Monmouth College, received her B.S. in psychology from the
University of Illinois in 1982; her M.S. in human resources and development, also
from the University of Illinois in 1987; and her Ph.D. in social psychology from
Northwestern University in 1994. At Monmouth, she teaches business administration
and organization, negotiations, human-resources management, strategy and structure.
When she's not teaching at Monmouth College, Karen consults to business managers
about strategy development and human-resources management. A certified mediator
through the Center for Conflict Resolution (founded by the Chicago Bar Association),
Karen uses mediation and facilitation techniques to assist executives in the strategic-planning
process and to consult to task forces. She also teaches in executive education courses
at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and other organizations,
including NRCA, in the areas of organizational development, negotiations, strategic
planning, human-resources management and related topics. Businesses served range
from multinational corporations to local not-for-profit associations.
