Stephen Phillips

Stephen Phillips is a 1971 graduate of George Washington University in Washington,
D.C., and a 1976 graduate of Emory University Law School in Atlanta, where he served
on the editorial board of the Emory Law Journal.
Stephen M. Phillips is a senior partner in the law firm Hendrick, Phillips, Schemm
& Salzman based in Atlanta. Phillips' law practice focuses on legal issues pertaining
to the construction industry and particularly the commercial roofing industry. He
serves as counsel to the National Roofing Contractors Association and to the National
Roofing Legal Resource Center, based in Rosemont, Ill.
Phillips has presented papers and lectured on construction topics to a wide range
of groups, including symposium sponsored by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the
Georgia Tech Research Institute, The American Institute of Architects, American
Bar Association's Forum on the Construction Industry and numerous construction contractor
groups.
Phillips has served as chairman and a member of the Board of Regents and faculty
of the Roofing Industry Educational Institute. He has served as a lecturer for the
Georgia Tech Research Institute's asbestos courses covering legal requirements and
liabilities associated with asbestos-related construction work. Phillips is a member
of the American Arbitration Association's Commercial Panel to hear construction
disputes under the Construction Industry Arbitration Rules and has served as a construction
arbitrator. In 1995, Phillips was elected a fellow in the American College of Construction
Lawyers.
