Program details

During this course, you will:
  • Examine the structural components and functions of roof assemblies, including decks, thermal insulation, membranes, flashings and counterflashings

  • Study the design issues, performance factors, material properties, manufacturing processes and application procedures for the following:

    • Low-slope roof systems: built-up, polymer-modified bitumen, single-ply, spray polyurethane foam (SPF), metal and green roof systems

    • Steep-slope roof systems: asphalt shingle, wood shake and shingle, clay and concrete tile, and slate roof systems

  • Identify roofing standards affecting the industry; the test methods used; and approval processes for material and assembly compliance for fire, wind and hail

  • Discuss applicable building and energy codes

  • Recognize the limitations and exclusions of roof system warranties

  • Understand OSHA standards for fall protection, ladder safety, personal protective equipment and electrical safety
