Reauthorization course
The CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization course is significantly different than
the original 10-hour Train-the-trainer course. Participants will advance their training
and facilitation skills and receive specific training on the requirements of the
torch applicator recertification class. The CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization
course is a six and one-half hour program that runs from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and
includes a working lunch.
Prerequisites for attending the reauthorization class:
- Applicants must have passed the original 10-hour CERTA Train-the-trainer Authorization
course.
- Applicants must have maintained their ability to use a roofing torch since their
original training.
- Applicants must have conducted a formalized training class within 12 months before
the expiration of his/her authorized status. (For example, a foreman who regularly
delivers "Toolbox Talks" would qualify.)
NRCA recommends completing the CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization course
before your original authorized status expires.
Authorized status expiration
A CERTA trainer's authorized status expires three years after his original training
date. NRCA mails reminder notices to all authorized trainers six months, three months
and one month before their expiration dates.
It is the direct responsibility of all authorized CERTA trainers to notify their
employers of pending expiration. The same sequence of expiration notices also are
sent directly to an authorized trainer's employer of record.
If you renew your authorized status before it expires, it will be valid for three
years after your ORIGINAL expiration, not the actual date you become reauthorized.
For example, if your trainer authorization expires Nov. 1, 2007, and you successfully
complete the CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization training Sept. 14, 2007, your
renewed authorized status will be valid until Oct. 31, 2010.
Grace period
You will have a six-month grace period after your expiration date to complete the
CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization course. You will not be able to schedule
or conduct a torch applicator certification class during this six-month grace period.
If you do not become reauthorized during this six-month grace period, you will lose
your authorized trainer status and be required to complete the original 10-hour
CERTA Train-the-trainer course before enrolling in the CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization
course.
Program note: Certified torch applicators also will receive notices of expiration
six months, three months and one month before the expiration date. Applicators will
have a 30-day grace period to complete their recertification training. They are
not certified torch applicators during this 30-day grace period.
