GAF discontinues new TPO² product and returns to original EverGuard® formulation

GAF Materials Corp. (GAFMC) has announced that it will discontinue production of its new EverGuard® TPO² Plus product and instead will manufacture and sell its EverGuard® TPO membrane within 90 days. According to GAFMC, TPO² required greater care during installation, which meant it did not meet the company’s requirement for being “contractor-friendly.” The TPO² product, according to GAFMC, proved to be more sensitive to temperatures, weld speeds and cleaning procedures and, therefore, “created hassles for experienced contractors.” The original EverGuard® TPO that GAFMC will resume manufacturing and selling has been on the market for three years.

GAFMC reports that it will closely monitor the 40 or so jobs that have already been installed and will provide an incentive for contractors to upgrade to its PVC membrane for jobs under contract but not yet begun. The original EverGuard® TPO membrane was manufactured for GAFMC under a private label agreement but will now be manufactured in GAFMC’s new plant in Indiana.

Dave Harrison, senior vice president at GAFMC, said that TPO² Plus offered “attributes that no other TPO can.” He continued: “However, initial installations of this formulation revealed that it did not achieve our core promise, which is to assure the best and safest choice for property owners, and to help contractors and distributors build their businesses and avoid hassles. Therefore, we’ve responded quickly and decisively.”
