GRHC launches Green Roof Professional Accreditation Program
Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) launched its Green Roof Professional (GRP) Accreditation Program June 5 at the 7th Greening Rooftops for Sustainable Communities Conference, Awards and Trade Show in Atlanta.
The GRP accreditation exam was completed by 130 conference delegates. The test focused on five key areas, including predesign, design, contract management, quality assurance and support, and maintenance. GRP accreditation is meant to raise the level of professional knowledge and allow individuals to distinguish themselves in the marketplace by teaching them about the available options for green roof system design and implementation, as well as helping them understand the major challenges of green roof systems and best practices associated with design and installation. Additionally, individuals with GRP accreditation will be qualified to identify and form project teams; function as team leaders for the green roof system portion of a project; and maximize green roof system benefits during the design process.
"Our recent North American industry survey reports the American green roofing industry grew by 35 percent in 2008, and there is growing governmental policy interest in the use of green roof infrastructure to meet various municipal, county, state and federal mandates for storm water management, air-quality standards and energy-efficiency standards," says Steven Peck, president of GRHC. "We are proud to establish the GRP accreditation that keeps pace with the growing demand for qualified professionals in the sector."
