Kickoff to Rebuild was a success

On Feb. 3, Washington, D.C.-based Rebuilding Together,® NRCA's national charity partner, held its 16th annual Kickoff to Rebuild three days before the National Football League's (NFL's) Super Bowl XLV in Dallas. NRCA Executive Vice President Bill Good and NRCA President Allen Lancaster attended the event.

During Kickoff to Rebuild, celebrities, NFL players and officials, sponsors and community members volunteered to help rebuild the Drummond Drive neighborhood in Arlington, Texas, by providing free home repairs that embrace safe and healthy housing principles. About 250 volunteers worked to repair 12 homes, as well as build a playground for Speer Elementary School provided by HGTV's Carter Oosterhouse in association with his foundation, Carter's Kids.

Participating companies and organizations included Benco Commercial Roofing, Fort Worth, Texas; Joe Hall Roofing, Arlington; Mike Huddleston Roofing, Mansfield, Texas; and the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association.

Participants from Benco Commercial Roofing included Bert Nunez, president; Candie Howell, lead estimator and project manager; Tim Veigel, estimator; Chuck Johnson, superintendent; Raymond Flores, foreman; Bobby Jones, equipment operator; Raul Gallardo, metal shop manager; Heracio Aquilar, roofing worker; Alvaro Ibarra, roofing worker; Joel Ibarra, roofing worker; Refugio Perez, roofing worker; Seddrick Simmons, roofing worker; Antonio Perez, roofing worker; and Larry Schrenk with ABC Supply.

Following the event, about 500 people attended a community celebration with local vendors providing samples of their food, products and services.

"This was an amazing effort involving the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association and several of their members," says NRCA Executive Vice President Bill Good. "They helped to literally restore a neighborhood and did it in record cold weather."
