Tom Shanahan
NRCA's vice president of enterprise risk management

Tom Shanahan joined NRCA in 1989 and has been responsible for leading NRCA's Enterprise Risk Management Section throughout his tenure. In addition, he directs and teaches in the Future Executives and Executive Management Institutes, NRCA's highly regarded executive programs held at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

Shanahan also created NRCA's For Foremen Only program and has had the privilege of training thousands of field managers. He regularly teaches strategic planning, leadership, management, communication and training-related programs on behalf of NRCA.


Harry Dietz
NRCA's director of risk management

Harry joined NRCA in 2002. He is a graduate of DePaul University and John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Harry grew up in the roofing business. His grandfather started Dietz Roofing Co. in Chicago in the early 1920s, and his family operated the business until the 1970s. Harry has had a variety of construction-related work experience, worked in private law practice and reported on the area of foreign taxation for a business and legal publisher.

At NRCA, Harry's responsibilities include serving as staff liaison to the Health and Safety Committee and Silica Task Force as well as updating and developing content for NRCA's Safety Manual and other safety-related products. He is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, American National Standards Institute's A-10 Construction Standards Committee and ASTM Skylight Human Impact Workgroup and regularly writes for Professional Roofing magazine. Harry is an authorized trainer for the 10- and 30-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Cal/OSHA construction safety classes and teaches NRCA's fall-protection training classes. He regularly presents at the International Roofing Expo and for other roofing industry groups. He also handles member inquiries on rules and regulations related to OSHA, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Transportation and related state agencies that affect the roofing industry.

Richard F. Trewyn
NRCA's Director of Enterprise Risk Management

Richard F. Trewyn, NRCA's director of enterprise risk management, has been with NRCA for only a short time but is no stranger to the industry. Before joining NRCA, Trewyn was the National Safety Director for Tecta America having started his career at FJA Christiansen Roofing Companies in Milwaukee in 1996. With a degree in occupational safety and health from the University of Wisconsin--Whitewater and his numerous certificates and certifications within the safety field, he brings a wealth of industry knowledge and expertise to NRCA. He is an OSHA-authorized trainer for the construction 10- and 30-hour classes as well as a CERTA torch-applied system trainer.
