CNA's Vice President, Underwriting for Construction
Rick Childs has been with CNA since 2007.
With more than 20 years of experience in underwriting, he is responsible for CNA's $866 million construction book, as
well as for new business production, increased gross written premium, rate, retention and profit. Within this role, he
develops and maintains underwriting guidelines and best practices in accordance with federal and state regulations, as
well as ensures the achievement of continued profitability, growth and/or operational efficiencies through assessment
of risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging risk issues. Additionally, Rick collaborates with business partners in
CNA's Risk Control, Actuarial, Claim, Worldwide Operations and Compliance departments to address governance and
compliance issues related to underwriting practices.
Before joining CNA, Rick held underwriting positions at Hartford Insurance, St. Paul Insurance, Kemper Insurance and
Travelers Insurance, writing for a wide range of segments.
Rick holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts.
