Abstract
This book provides information on metal plate connected trusses manufactured throughout the United States and Canada and other parts of the world from lumber and galvanized light-gauge cold-formed structural-grade steel. It is intended to familiarize architects, engineers, builders, building officials, students and others with wood truss industry. As such, it covers the technical history of metal plate connected wood trusses, the evolution of current truss design and construction practices, and an overview of testing and design procedures. The material included in some sections pre-supposes a basic knowledge of structural engineering theory. Most sections present practical aspects of trusses used in construction uniting the practical and theoretical. This book is not a design specification. However, portions of the industry design specifications are discussed and examples of truss designs are included. Wood truss industry design specifications have gained wide acceptance by coding agencies, building officials, architects, engineers, contractors and builders. The industry standards referenced throughout offer the most up-to-date information currently available.
