Congresswomen Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) and María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) announced a new bipartisan immigration reform bill May 23, according to KFOX14. The Dignity Act of 2023 is expected to make changes to outdated polices.
The bill would make the following changes:
- Grant additional pathways to citizenship, including through the new Dignity Program, certified agricultural worker status or service through the armed forces
- Grant legal status to undocumented immigrants already living in the U.S. with the possibility of earning citizenship
- Establish new pathways for asylum seekers and create new regional processing centers
- Create new legal pathways for economic migrants and unaccompanied minors
- Invest in border infrastructure and security, including U.S. ports of entry
