ADP Research recently released its third installment of Today at Work 2025. In part, the study examined five-year trends in demand, employment growth, pay and demographics for the skilled building trades.
Key findings included:
- Construction employment has grown by 13% since January 2020, which is more than twice as fast as U.S. job growth (6%). However, elevated mortgage rates and high prices have slowed progress; construction job openings fell in July and have since trailed overall U.S. openings.
- Median wages for residential construction workers are about 10% higher than all other industries combined.
- In June 2025, the annual bonus for residential construction workers was $761 compared with $462 in other industries.
