Construction jobs were added in 22 states from January to February

Twenty-two states added construction jobs in February, according to Associated General Contractors of America. Thirty states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs during the past year.

“Severe winter weather in late January and February probably led to a drop in the number of states with one-month job gains,” said AGC Chief Economist Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist. “But construction is slowing in many parts of the country, apart from areas with data center, power and large manufacturing projects, as other owners hold back on starting projects.”

Florida added the most construction jobs from January to February—1,100—and Montana had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—1.3%. From February 2025 to February, Texas added the most construction jobs—24,000—and Montana had the largest percentage increase—8.8%.

New Jersey lost the largest number of construction jobs (-5,900) for the month and Delaware had the largest percentage decline (-4.4%). During the past 12 months, California lost the most construction jobs (-10,300) and Alaska had the largest percentage decline (-5.6%).
