Construction jobs were added in 30 states in December 2022

Thirty states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs in December 2022 as demand for many types of commercial construction projects remains strong, according to www.agc.org. Forty states added construction jobs during the past year.

California added the most construction jobs from November 2022 to December 2022—7,500—and Louisiana had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—2.6%. During the past 12 months, California added the most construction jobs—41,100—and Rhode Island had the largest percentage increase—17.3%

Missouri lost the largest number of construction jobs (-4,400) for the month, and North Dakota had the largest percentage decline (-6.4%). During the past 12 months, New Jersey lost the most construction jobs (-8,900) and had the largest percentage decline (-5.5%).

“Construction employment growth was less widespread in December than in some recent months as homebuilding slowed,” said Ken Simonson, chief economist for the Associated General Contractors of America. “But most nonresidential contractors continue to report strong demand and that they would like to add more workers than are available.”
