Construction jobs were added in 31 states from January to February

Thirty-one states added construction jobs in February as contractors continued to struggle to fill open positions, according to Associated General Contractors of America. Thirty-nine states added construction jobs during the past year.

“Exceptional winter weather can make comparisons tricky in many states, but it is clear that there is still growing demand for construction workers in much of the country,” said Ken Simonson, AGC’s chief economist. “Most contractors are more concerned about filling jobs than a downturn in activity.”

Texas added the most construction jobs from January to February—7,800—and Alaska had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—4.9%. During the past 12 months, Texas added the most construction jobs—32,200—and Alaska had the largest percentage increase—15.6%

California lost the largest number of construction jobs (-9,600) for the month and Minnesota had the largest percentage decline (-2.3%). During the past 12 months, New York lost the most construction jobs (-19,000) and North Dakota had the largest percentage decline (-5.7%).
