Construction jobs were added in 38 states in November amid labor shortage

Thirty-eight states added construction jobs in November even as many companies continue to struggle with a labor shortage, according to www.agc.org. Forty-two states added construction jobs during the past year.

Florida added the most construction jobs from October to November—5,400—and Rhode Island had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—3.6%. During the past 12 months, California added the most construction jobs—37,200—and North Dakota had the largest percentage increase—15.6%

Texas lost the largest number of construction jobs (-3,900) for the month, and Colorado and Minnesota had the largest percentage decline (-1.8%). During the past 12 months, South Carolina lost the most construction jobs (-4,700) and had the largest percentage decline (-4.5%).

“There is no sign of recession in construction employment data,” said Ken Simonson, chief economist for the Associated General Contractors of America. “In fact, contractors report almost universally that they need more workers than they can find.”
