CPWR—The Center for Construction Research and Training developed the Safety Climate-Safety Management Information System to help contractors and safety professionals understand their company’s job-site safety climate and employ strategies and resources to continuously strengthen it.
Not all companies have the financial and personnel resources to take the necessary steps; CPWR offers SC-SMIS free of charge, enabling companies and safety professionals to:
- Measure job-site safety climate across eight leading indicators using CPWR’s safety climate assessment tools
- Download evidence-based safety management policies, procedures, guidelines and templates that can be used to strengthen low-scoring indicators. All documents are available in English and Spanish and are formatted in Microsoft Word to allow companies to customize them
- Develop a plan to put resources into action and keep track of current and completed plans
NRCA staff and members of NRCA’s Health and Safety Committee contributed to CPWR’s efforts to develop the SC-SMIS.
Since January, more than 300 companies have created an SC-SMIS account, and many already have conducted a safety climate assessment.
