Longtime NRCA member passes away

John Cleveland (J.C.) Robinson III, president of NRCA member Frye Roofing Inc., Bluefield, W.Va., passed away Sept. 16 after a short battle with COVID-19. He was 67.

Robinson studied business at the University of Alabama and spent his career in the construction industry. He was president of Frye Roofing for nearly 20 years.

Robinson served as an NRCA director from 2007-10 and 2011-14. He served as chairman of NRCA’s Safety Manual Committee from 2011-12 and served on NRCA’s Affiliate Relations Committee, Contractor Management Committee, Health and Safety Committee and NRCA University Operations Committee, among other committees.

He was proud to give back to his industry by serving as president of the Virginia Association of Roofing Professionals.

Robinson is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Teresa; two children, Keli Ann and husband Henry Malkin, and Jeremiah Robinson and wife Melanie; and two grandsons, Shea James Malkin and John Cleveland Robinson. He also is survived by his mother-in-law, Peggy Bailey; aunt, Pauline Miller; and his cousins.

The family and the Bluefield West Virginia Economic Development Authority have created the JC Robinson Entrepreneurial Fund to carry on his legacy and involvement with Bluefield by assisting new entrepreneurs with education and small-business development.
