Rod Petrick, president of the Roofing Alliance and owner of Ridgeworth Roofing, Frankfort, Ill., is challenging Roofing Alliance and NRCA members to adopt the roofs of 165 standalone Ronald McDonald houses in the U.S. by the end of 2018. Although the roofs of 155 houses have been adopted, there still are 10 remaining roofs available.
In April 2017, the Roofing Alliance began working with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) by supporting its efforts to help families with critically ill children stay together and near the hospitals providing them medical care. The houses provide private sleeping rooms, meals and support, offering opportunities for families to interact as they go through their difficult times. Through sponsorship funds and the adoption of the roofs, the Roofing Alliance has brought together roofing professionals and companies who donate their time and talents to provide regular roof system inspections, maintenance, repairs and replacements.
The Roofing Alliance asks its partners in this initiative to:
- Conduct an initial roof inspection and report back with details regarding the current condition of the roof and expected future needs
- Conduct annual inspections
- Provide preventive maintenance and minor repairs as needed
- Provide basic emergency repairs
- Be the lead contractor if the house needs a major roof repair, replacement or new roof
The information reported to the Roofing Alliance (the current condition of the roof and expected future needs) will be used to help RMHC establish a baseline of roof conditions for the houses and help the organization develop roof maintenance and replacement plans.
