As the holidays approach, one of the best gifts you can give your team members is to focus on their happiness. Many people are becoming more disengaged in their jobs, but when people are happy at work, employees and employers benefit.
Harvard Business Review offers the following tips to help foster genuine happiness for your team.
- Reimagining flexibility. Flexibility is not just about a work location—it is also about autonomy and freedom. Ask your team members what they want the freedom to do, and try your best to reasonably accommodate their wants and needs.
- Building belonging. Seek ways to build relationships on your team. Ask employees questions such as: Do you feel connected to your colleagues at work? How can we increase a sense of belonging for you and others?
- Restoring purpose. To truly be happy at work, employees need a deep connection to why they are there—whether it is to support their families or because they connect with the company’s mission. Collaborate to create a mission on your team and help your employees align with the mission.
