The NRCA ProCertified® Roof System Installer certification verifies the knowledge and skill of an experienced roof systems installer.

To become an NRCA ProCertified Roof System Installer, you must meet all eligibility requirements and pass a hands-on performance exam.

Eligibility Requirements

ProCertification Roof Installer certification eligibility requires you to meet a specific work experience requirement and pass an eligibility exam.

Hands-on Performance Exam

The hands-on performance exam requires applicants to demonstrate system-specific installation skills and safety requirements. Exams are scheduled directly with a Qualified Assessor and can be completed at a contractor’s shop, a testing event and, in some cases, video submission may be approved.

Certifications

Architectural Metal Flashings and Accessories Installer

Requirements

  • A minimum of 24 months' experience installing various architectural metal flashings and accessories on steep- or low-slope roofs, including but not limited to coping systems, fascia systems, edge-metal profiles, counterflashing profiles, metal valley flashings, gutter profiles, and headwall and sidewall flashings.
  • Most recent experience must be within the past 12 months
  • Pass the steep-slope eligibility exam or the low-slope eligibility exam

Asphalt Shingle Systems Installer

Requirements

  • A minimum of 18 months’ experience installing asphalt shingle roof systems, including flashings, valleys and various shingle types
  • Most recent experience must be within the past 12 months
  • Pass the steep-slope eligibility exam

Clay and Concrete Tile Systems Installer

Requirements

  • A minimum of 24 months’ experience installing clay and concrete tile roof systems, including installing underlayment, metal valleys and flashings, battens and tile layout and various attachment methods
  • Most recent experience must be within the past 12 months
  • Pass the steep-slope eligibility exam

EPDM Systems Installer

Requirements

  • A minimum of 24 months’ experience installing EPDM roof systems, including all types of flashings, sheet layout and attachment systems
  • Most recent experience must be within the past 12 months
  • Pass the low-slope eligibility exam

Metal Panel Roof Systems Installer

Requirements

  • A minimum of 36 months' experience installing metal panel roof systems on steep-slope roofs, including valleys, various flashing and penetration details and installation of underlayment materials.
  • Most recent experience must be within the past 12 months
  • Pass the steep-slope eligibility exam

Metal Shingle Systems Installer

Requirements

  • A minimum of 36 months' experience installing valley metal; cutting, forming and folding metal shingles, layout and attachment
  • Most recent experience must be within the past 12 months
  • Pass the steep-slope eligibility exam

Modified Bitumen Systems Installer

Requirements

  • A minimum of 24 months’ experience installing modified bitumen roof systems using the attachment method required for the specific designation. Designations are available for torch-applied, hot-applied, cold-applied and self-adhering attachment methods.
  • Most recent experience must be within the past 12 months
  • Pass the low-slope eligibility exam
  • The torch-applied designation also requires the applicant to hold a current CERTA certification or an equivalent credential

Thermoplastic Systems Installer

Requirements

  • A minimum of 24 months’ experience installing thermoplastics roof systems, including flashings, sheet layout and attachment
  • Most recent experience must be within the past 12 months
  • Pass the low-slope eligibility exam

Certification Renewal

To renew your certification, you must complete training within the three-year renewal cycle. Training can take place in a classroom, real-world or online environment. You can work with manufacturers, distributors, contractors and NRCA to stay on top of training. Be sure to log your training hours and certificates to show NRCA when you’re ready to renew!

The ProCertification renewal process allows NRCA ProCertified® individuals to demonstrate their commitment to continuing education and professionalism. ProCertification Roof System Installer and Roofing Foreman certification renewal is required every three years.
